This creative and highly practical course is essential if you wish to pursue a career in the world of fashion and will give you a realistic view of the demands of working in this exciting and highly competitive industry. Project work will enable you to develop skills in fashion and textile design, illustration, and pattern and garment construction, and you’ll be encouraged to study the work of leading fashion designers, textile designers and artists, both historical and contemporary, to inspire and influence your own work.
Year 1 will give you a basic grounding in essential skills and industry specific techniques, whilst Year 2 will allow you to follow your personal interests, while receiving guidance in your application for Higher Education or employment. This will culminate in you writing and completing a major project and displaying your work at a final show. Throughout, you’ll receive strong personal tutorial support and be encouraged to develop your literacy and communication skills.
In addition to 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades A*-C, you should have gained a GCSE grade C or above in Art, Textiles or Photography. You will also need to show a portfolio of work demonstrating your creative ability.
