You will build on the skills acquired at GCSE and develop an awareness of the relevance of mathematics to the world of work and to society in general, developing an understanding of mathematics and mathematical processes in a way that promotes confidence and fosters enjoyment.
This is a modular two-year course comprising of 6 modules, 3 in each year:
Year 1 (AS): Core Mathematics 1 and 2
Year 2 (A2): Core Mathematics 3 and 4
The following are some of the advanced areas studied in this course: differentiation, integration, exponentials and the binomial expansion, kinetics and dynamics.
Written examinations of each module are available in January and June. A candidate may enter twice for each module.
Further Maths is an option for students with an A* in GCSE who love Mathematics. Twelve modules are covered in the 2 year course to include modules taught within A Level Maths and a further six from FP1, FP2, FP3, D1, D2, M2, S2. Each module consists of a ninety minute examination. A Further Maths qualification is desirable for many careers and a number of Higher Education courses including Engineering and Mathematics. Our Further Maths A Level is supported by the Further Mathematics support Programme who are funded by the DfE through Maths in Education and Industry to support Further Maths tuition.
In addition to the A level pathway requirement of 5 GCSEs, including English, you will need the solid foundation of an A* - A grade at Higher level in GCSE Mathematics as there is a very high algebraic content within this course.
